Contractor listing terms

These terms apply to businesses listed on Local Service Calculator, and explain to everybody else what a listing does and does not mean.

What a listing is

A listing shows a contractor's name, description, contact details, service area, license details and certifications, as supplied by that contractor. Listings appear on calculator pages in the relevant service category, narrowed to the contractors covering a visitor's ZIP code once one is entered.

What "License checked" means

It means somebody has compared the license number shown against the issuing state's records and found it current, on the date recorded. That is all it means.

It is not:

• An endorsement or recommendation.
• A statement about the quality of the work.
• Confirmation of insurance, bonding or any other coverage.
• A continuing guarantee — a license can lapse after we check it.

Confirm a contractor's license and insurance directly before entering into any agreement. A license number is checkable with the issuing state in minutes and is worth checking.

Certifications

Certifications are shown with the body that issued them. Where an expiry date is recorded, the certification stops appearing once it passes. We do not independently verify every certification, and showing one is not a statement that it is current beyond what its issuer says.

Obligations of a listed business

By submitting or maintaining a listing, you confirm that:

• The information is accurate and you are authorized to provide it.
• Your license is current and valid in the areas you have listed as your coverage.
• You hold the insurance your trade and jurisdiction require.
• You will tell us promptly if your license lapses, your coverage changes, or your details become wrong.
• You will not list areas you are not licensed to work in.

Removal

We may remove or suspend a listing at any time, including where information is inaccurate, a license has lapsed, or we receive credible complaints. We do not have to give a reason, and removal does not entitle you to compensation beyond any unused paid placement.

Paid placement

Paid listings rank first and are labeled Sponsored. See the advertising disclosure. Payment buys position and nothing else — not verification, not editorial treatment, and no influence on the cost figures.

Our role

We are a publisher, not a party to any agreement between a visitor and a contractor. We do not perform, supervise, warrant or insure any work, and we take no part in payment or in any dispute.
